This period before your operation is essential to properly prepare for your surgery, answer all your questions, and help you approach the procedure with confidence and peace of mind.
Upon your arrival
You will be welcomed by our medical secretary, who will verify your administrative and medical file.
Please bring the following documents:
- Your Vitale card (if you live in France) and proof of identity,
- Your supplementary health insurance card,
- Referral letters from your general practitioner, gastroenterologist, or oncology radiotherapist,
- A complete list of your current medications,
- Recent test results (CT scan, MRI, colonoscopy, blood tests, etc.),
- The CD-ROM and reports of your medical imaging (if available),
- Previous operative or hospitalization reports, if relevant,
- Any document relating to a specific situation: workplace accident form,..
The goal is to ensure that the surgeon has all the necessary information to accurately assess your situation and determine the most appropriate course of action.
Consultation Process
During the consultation, your surgeon will :
- Review your medical and digestive history in detail,
- Analyze your test results and establish an accurate diagnosis,
- Assess whether surgical treatment is appropriate or not,
- Explain the nature of the proposed procedure, its purpose, how it is performed, its benefits, and potential risks,
- Present the different technical options (minimally invasive surgery, robot-assisted surgery, etc.), depending on your condition and individual situation,
- Answer all your questions clearly and in a personalized manner.
If surgery is recommended, a pre-anesthesia consultation will be scheduled at a later date.
This allows the anesthesiologist to assess your health status, validate the anesthesia plan, and optimally prepare for the perioperative period.
Meeting with the Clinical Research Team
Following your consultation, you may also be invited to meet the clinical research team at the Bordeaux Colorectal Institute. Our institute is actively involved in numerous national and international research protocols and clinical trials, aimed at improving the care of patients with colorectal diseases.
If your situation corresponds to one of these protocols, the research team will present the study's objectives, the terms of participation, and the potential benefits for your follow-up care.
Your participation is entirely voluntary and governed by current ethical regulations.
Questionnaires relating to your quality of life, digestive function, or other aspects of your daily life may be offered to you during consultations. These help improve our understanding of your health evolution in relation to the various medical and/or surgical treatments, and thus optimize your follow-up care, particularly from a functional perspective.
For more details on ongoing studies, please refer to the section dedicated to Research, where all protocols and clinical trials offered within our institutes are presented.
At the end of the Consultation
At the end of your appointment, you will be given all the documents necessary to prepare for your hospital stay :
- Hospital admission notice with the date of your admission,
- Detailed preoperative instructions,
- Prescriptions (medications, bowel preparation, nutritional supplements, etc.),
- Patient information sheets related to your procedure,
- Informed consent form, to be read and signed before the operation, confirming that all your questions have been answered,
- Surgical cost estimate detailing the portion covered by national health insurance and any additional fees for the procedure.
Pre-admission
Once your surgical procedure has been confirmed, you will need to complete your pre-admission with Clinique Tivoli-Ducos. This administrative step is essential to ensure your hospital stay is organized under the best possible conditions.
You have two options :
- Online, via a secure link that you will receive by email from Clinique Tivoli-Ducos. This option allows you to provide your administrative information remotely, easily and confidentially.
- On site, directly at the reception desk of Clinique Tivoli-Ducos, where a dedicated team will assist you with this process.
We recommend completing your pre-admission as soon as possible after your consultation in order to facilitate the organization of your hospitalization.
Your Care Pathway
At the end of the consultation or during your hospitalization, the surgeon may suggest that you participate in a research protocol, such as a study evaluating a new surgical device, a new method of administering it, new surgical techniques, personalized therapeutic strategies, etc.
